Syllabus for MB
Molecular structure of genes and chromosomes; DNA replication and control; Transcription and its control; Translational processes; Regulatory controls in prokaryotes and eukaryotes

Students can heave a sigh of relief. Questions for molecular biology require only basic concepts.

Topic-wise analysis of the subject
Molecular structure of genes and chromosomes; DNA and RNA structure, major and minor grooves, supercoiling; topoisomerases, calculation of G-C content of a DNA, DNA packaging, histones, euchromatin and heterochromain,   nucleosomes,
DNA replication and control; Concept of replicons, semi-conservative replication, enzymes involved, DNA polymerases, helicases, nucleases, okazaki fragments,   Basic DNA repair mechanisms
Transcription and its control; cis-acting sequences and trans-acting factors, promoters, enhancers, transcription factors, initiation of transcription, sigma factor, termination in prokaryotes; rho dependant and independent, attenuation, enzymes and promoters for transcription of rRNA, mRNA and tRNA, mRNA splicing, polyadenylation, DNA binding motifs in proteins, techniques to identify protein binding sites on DNA
Translational processes; structure of tRNA, amino acyl synthetases, mRNA and ribosomes, ribosome binding site on mRNA, peptideyl transferase activity, concept of reading frame and ORF, basics of  post-translational processing, molecular chaperons, features of  the genetic code
Regulatory controls in prokaryotes and eukaryotes: operons (lac and tryptophan), gene silencing, RNAi, enzyme involved, DNA methylation, heterochromatization (very basic), Interpretation of data from various techniques to determine the level of control of gene expression; transcriptional or translational, Viral life cycles, calculation of MOI (multiplicity of infection)
Molecular basis of diseases: Disease and their molecular agents.

Each year, a fairly regular question is from the molecular mechanism of the action of drugs and antibiotics; generally as a group matching question

Grassroots

Grassroots Academy was founded with the vision to impart right mix of education and guidance to students who aspire to etch for themselves a challenging and distinguishing career in the field of Biotechnology. At Grassroots we create success stories by tapping the student’s inherent strengths, empowering him with outstanding competitive skills and channelizing ones core strength in right direction.
To tap the caliber of students we have devised teaching methods which are result oriented and provides one with competitive edge in qualifying GATE -BIOTECHNOLOGY Exam.
We envision to catapult Grassroots into India’s leading institution where one gets an advantage to enter into the most demanding disciplines in science. The great learning environment at the institute provides a platform where the students can come together and compete for the best. The faculty and management possess a high degree of integrity, knowledge and are experts in their respective fields.
